Why do we need a No More 24 Pac?
The No More 24 PAC will support candidates in New York City elections who support a vision for a city where our communities and workers are protected. The New York City Council needs a new leader who puts people first and has the courage to stand up to sweatshop bosses and big real estate. Toward this end, the No More 24 PAC aims to support Christopher Marte to be the next Speaker of the City Council.
One of the clearest failures of the current City Council is the refusal to end the barbaric 24-hour shifts faced by women of color workers in NYC. Home attendants are forced to work 24-hour workdays with little or no sleep, destroying workers' health and lives. It also endangers the patients by affecting the quality of care provided by tired and overworked home attendants.
At the same time, real estate developers are displacing communities across the city through rising rents and real estate taxes. Their endless greed buys off politicians who advance their agenda by prioritizing the construction of luxury towers while blocking truly affordable housing and community spaces.
We need more politicians like City Council Member Christopher Marte, who has a proven record of standing with working people and communities. He has introduced the No More 24 Act to put an end to the inhumane practice of 24-hour workdays by splitting the shifts. And he was the sole Manhattan Council Member to bravely stand up to the developers and vote no to Mayor Adams’ City of Yes plan.
The No More 24 PAC fights for a true working class platform and supports candidates who will be accountable to our communities and not special interests who exploit them.
